Palestinian Authority Minister Makes Unsubstantiated Claims Against Israel’s Education Policies

A Palestinian Authority minister has accused Israel of deliberately destroying the education sector in Palestinian-administered areas, making sweeping allegations without providing verifiable evidence to support the claims.

The accusations, initially published by Turkish state-affiliated media outlet Anadolu Agency, represent the latest in a series of inflammatory statements by PA officials seeking to portray Israel's security operations as attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Israeli security officials have consistently maintained that military operations in Judea and Samaria target terrorist infrastructure and individuals involved in planning or executing attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers. When educational facilities are affected, it is typically because they have been used to store weapons, serve as operational bases for terrorist cells, or house wanted suspects.

The claims come as the Palestinian Authority continues to face international scrutiny over its educational curriculum, which has been documented by independent research organizations to include content promoting violence against Israelis and glorifying terrorism. The PA's textbooks have been criticized by European donors and monitoring groups for containing material that incites hatred and fails to promote peace.

Israel maintains strict security protocols in areas under its administration to prevent terrorist activities while working to minimize disruption to civilian life. The IDF regularly coordinates with international organizations to ensure that legitimate civilian needs, including education, can continue in Palestinian communities.

The timing of these accusations appears designed to deflect attention from the PA's own failures in governance and education quality, as well as its continued policy of paying salaries to convicted terrorists and their families—a practice that diverts significant funds from legitimate educational and social services.

The Palestinian Authority administers civil affairs in Areas A and B under the framework established by the Oslo Accords, while Israel maintains security control in these areas and full control in Area C of Judea and Samaria. Educational policy in PA-controlled areas remains primarily under Palestinian jurisdiction.
