Israel Announces Death of Hezbollah Radwan Force Commander in Beirut Airstrike

Israeli military officials announced that a senior Hezbollah commander leading the organization's elite Radwan Force was killed in a targeted airstrike in Beirut, marking a significant escalation in hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese militant group.

The strike, which targeted a location in the Lebanese capital, represents one of the most high-profile operations against Hezbollah's military leadership in recent months. The Radwan Force commander had been a key figure in the organization's special operations unit, which is considered one of Hezbollah's most capable and battle-hardened formations.

Israeli defense sources confirmed the operation but did not immediately provide additional details about the circumstances of the strike or the specific location within Beirut where it occurred. The timing and method of the attack were not disclosed for operational security reasons.

The Radwan Force, named after slain Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh's nom de guerre, is believed to consist of several thousand elite fighters specially trained for cross-border operations and complex military missions. The unit has been a focal point of Israeli military concern due to its strategic positioning along Lebanon's southern border and its advanced training.

This operation comes amid heightened tensions along Israel's northern border, where exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah have occurred with increasing frequency. Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that they would not tolerate threats from Hezbollah's military infrastructure, particularly from units positioned near the border.

There was no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah regarding the reported death of the commander. The organization typically announces the deaths of its fighters and commanders through its official media channels, though such announcements sometimes come days after Israeli strikes.

The targeted killing of senior Hezbollah military figures has been a component of Israeli security strategy for decades. Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States, and several other countries, maintains substantial military capabilities in Lebanon and has been a key Iranian proxy in the region since its formation in the 1980s.
