Tehran Reviewing US Ceasefire Proposals as Israel Continues Strikes in Lebanon

Brief: Iran signals potential diplomatic opening while IDF maintains pressure on Hezbollah positions in Beirut amid ongoing regional conflict.

Iranian officials announced they are reviewing ceasefire proposals from the United States as Israel's military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon entered its 69th day, with fresh airstrikes reported in Beirut on Thursday.

The development marks a potential shift in Tehran's posture after more than two months of escalating conflict that has seen Israel systematically degrade Hezbollah's military infrastructure across Lebanon. Israeli Defense Forces have conducted extensive operations targeting the Iranian-backed terror group's command centers, weapons depots, and leadership positions.

While details of the American proposals remain undisclosed, diplomatic sources suggest the initiative aims to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iranian proxy forces across the region. Iran's willingness to review such proposals comes as Hezbollah has suffered significant operational setbacks, including the elimination of key commanders and the destruction of sophisticated weapons systems.

The IDF reported successful strikes on additional Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut, continuing its methodical campaign to neutralize threats to Israeli civilians in the north. Israeli officials have repeatedly stated that operations will continue until Hezbollah is pushed back from Israel's northern border and the terror group's offensive capabilities are dismantled.

Jerusalem has made clear that any diplomatic resolution must ensure the security of Israeli communities that have been evacuated from the north due to sustained Hezbollah rocket and missile attacks. Israeli security officials estimate that Hezbollah has fired thousands of projectiles at Israeli territory since the conflict's outbreak, forcing tens of thousands of Israelis from their homes.

The conflict began following Hezbollah's unprovoked attacks on Israeli positions in solidarity with Hamas after the October 7 massacre. Israel has maintained that it will not tolerate the presence of Iranian-backed forces on its borders and has vowed to restore security to the region. The United States has supported Israel's right to self-defense while working to prevent wider regional escalation involving Iran directly.
