She was taken from the Nova music festival near Re'im, where Hamas terrorists massacred over 360 young people in one of the deadliest incidents of that day.

Schem was held captive in Gaza for 55 days before being released as part of a temporary ceasefire agreement in late November 2023. During her captivity, Hamas released a propaganda video showing her with an injured arm, which she later revealed had been treated by a veterinarian in Gaza. Following her release, Schem provided harrowing testimony about her ordeal in Hamas captivity.
