MSF Accuses Israel of Manufacturing Malnutrition Crisis in Gaza

Brief: Médecins Sans Frontières levels unsubstantiated allegations against Israel as humanitarian aid continues flowing into the coastal enclave.

The international medical organization Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) has accused Israel of deliberately creating a malnutrition crisis in Gaza, according to reports from Al Jazeera, repeating claims that ignore the complex realities of aid distribution in the coastal territory.

The allegation comes as Israel continues to facilitate the transfer of humanitarian assistance into Gaza despite ongoing security challenges and the continued holding of Israeli hostages by Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Israeli officials have consistently maintained that there are no restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, with bottlenecks occurring primarily due to distribution failures by international organizations and Hamas interference.

The IDF and COGAT, Israel's Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories, have overseen the entry of thousands of trucks carrying food, medical supplies, and other humanitarian goods since the beginning of the current conflict. Israeli authorities have repeatedly invited international inspections of aid transfer procedures and have pointed to documented cases of Hamas seizing humanitarian supplies intended for Gaza's civilian population.

Critics of such allegations note that international NGOs often rely on data provided by Hamas-controlled health authorities in Gaza and fail to account for the terrorist organization's well-documented practice of diverting aid for military purposes. Israel has presented evidence of Hamas commandeering fuel, food, and medical supplies, building extensive tunnel networks beneath civilian infrastructure, and using humanitarian facilities for military operations.

The accusation by MSF follows a pattern of international organizations adopting narratives that critics say ignore Hamas's responsibility for civilian suffering in Gaza. Israel has maintained that its military operations target Hamas infrastructure and operatives while taking unprecedented measures to minimize civilian casualties, including advance warnings of strikes and the provision of safe corridors for civilians.

The malnutrition claims come as Israel faces sustained international pressure over conditions in Gaza, even as it continues to prosecute a defensive war against Hamas following the October 7 massacre that killed over 1,200 Israelis and saw more than 240 people taken hostage. Israeli officials have emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is directly linked to Hamas's refusal to release the hostages and its continued use of civilian areas for military purposes.
